Recent popes and Church Teaching both stress that Evangelisation is a “must” for every catholic. Pope Paul 6th, in that wonderful encyclical Evangelii nuntiandi, wrote that “The Good News proclaimed by our witness of Life, sooner or later has to be proclaimed by the Word of Life”. And to assist with this, our parish offers each year beginning in September a Journey in Faith programme for those who express an interest in becoming a catholic, or indeed for anyone who wants to renew their Faith and commitment.

Over a period of weeks each session consists of some input on Church Teaching based on the Catechism of the Catholic Church. This is done in a relaxed and non threatening way and is usually followed by a short discussion, with the opportunity to ask any questions based on the evening’s input. Sometimes it will be appropriate to listen to the testimony of someone who is a convert – explaining the reasons for his/her own personal journey of Faith that led to eventual conversion to the Catholic Church.

Whilst there is some instruction each week, the overall emphasis is on focussing on the person of Jesus, bearing in mind the words of John Paul 2nd that at the heart of our Faith is not a set of beliefs or rules – but a PERSON. And therefore there is the opportunity to discuss both formal/informal prayer and ways of nourishing a personal relationship with Jesus.

Each session finishes with tea/coffee/light refreshments, during which there is the opportunity to discuss any of the points raised in a more informal setting.
